What is the difference between Monel 400 sheet and monel K500 sheet?
Monel 400 Plate and K500 Plate are both nickel-copper alloys that offer excellent corrosion resistance. Monel K500 Plate offers significantly greater strength and hardness due to its precipitation hardening properties, while Monel 400 Plate is easier to fabricate and process. Monel K500 Plate also exhibits better corrosion resistance to certain corrosive environments, such as sour gases.

Will Monel 400 Alloy Plate Rust?
Monel 400 Plate is a nickel-copper alloy that is characterized by good corrosion resistance, good weldability, and medium to high strength. It also withstands attack by high-temperature seawater and steam, as well as alkaline solutions and salts.
Key Differences Between Monel K500 Plates and Monel 400 Plates
1. Mechanical Strength and Hardness
Due to precipitation hardening, Monel K500 sheet is significantly stronger than Monel 400 sheet.
With a yield strength nearly twice that of Monel 400 sheet, K500 sheet is suitable for more demanding structural applications.
If your application involves high pressure or mechanical stress, Monel K500 sheet is the best choice.
2. Corrosion Resistance
Both grades offer excellent corrosion resistance, but with slight differences.
Monel 400 performs well in hydrofluoric and sulfuric acid environments.
Monel K500 plate also withstands these environments, but has an advantage in sour gas (H₂S) conditions due to its higher strength.
However, Monel K500 is more susceptible to stress corrosion cracking in certain environments than Monel 400.
