Monel Alloy K500 Description
K500 alloy (Monel) is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper-aluminum alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of 400 alloy with increased strength and hardness. Its properties are enhanced by adding aluminum and titanium to a nickel-copper matrix and heating under controlled conditions, causing submicroscopic particles of Ni3(Ti,Al) to precipitate throughout the matrix. The heat treatment used to effect precipitation is often referred to as age hardening or aging.
Typical industrial applications for K500 alloy include marine fasteners, springs, and chains; pump and valve components in chemical processing facilities; and blades and scrapers used in pulp and paper production. Oil and gas production uses K500 alloy for drill collars, instrumentation, pump shafts, impellers, and valves; as well as sensors and electronic components.
