Incoloy 800, also known as Alloy 800, N08800 and W.Nr. 1.4876, is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy that offers high strength and excellent resistance to high-temperature oxidation and carburization.
UNS N08800 alloy is designed for applications requiring corrosion resistance in a variety of environments, including exposure to high temperatures and corrosive environments.
Incoloy 800 is commonly used in industrial furnaces, petrochemical processing, heat treatment equipment, and nitric acid processing. It is also used in power generation, particularly steam superheater and reheater piping, where it offers excellent high-temperature strength and resistance to oxidation and carburization.
INCOLOY 800 is available in standard product forms including tube, plate, strip, round bar, flat bar, forgings, and hexagonal bar.

High Strength Incoloy 800 Alloy Key Information

Application

Incoloy 800 is used in a variety of applications involving exposure to corrosive environments and high temperatures. It is used for heat-treating equipment such as baskets, trays, and fixtures. In chemical and petrochemical processing, the alloy is used for heat exchangers and other piping systems in nitric acid media especially where resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking is required. In nuclear power plants, it is used for steam-generator tubing. The alloy is often used in domestic appliances for sheathing of electric heating elements. In the production of paper pulp, digester-liquor heaters are often made of alloy 800. In petroleum processing, the alloy is used for heat exchangers that air cool the process stream.

Machinability

The machining characteristics of INCOLOY 800 alloy are similar to those of iron-based alloys. The alloy tends to undergo work hardening during machining.

Welding

INCOLOY Alloy 800 can be welded using common welding techniques and with matching filler metals.

Forming

The alloy has good ductility and can therefore be formed using conventional methods.

Hot working

INCOLOY alloy 800 can be hot worked in the temperature range of 871-1232°C (1600-2250°F).

Cold Working

The alloy can be cold worked using standard tools.

Annealing

INCOLOY alloy 800 may be annealed after cold working. The annealing temperature should be 982°C (1800°F) for 15 minutes followed by air cooling.
