Gnee Alloy Inconel 600 Description

Inconel 600 (UNS N06600) is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy with a typical composition of approximately 72% nickel, 15.5% chromium, and 8% iron; it exhibits excellent oxidation resistance, high-temperature strength, and resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking.

Its operating temperature range extends from cryogenic temperatures up to 1050°C (1922°F), maintaining mechanical properties and resisting scaling throughout this range; at temperatures below 650°C (1200°F), it offers high corrosion resistance against alkaline solutions, organic acids, and dry chlorine gas. The alloy is not precipitation-hardenable and can only be strengthened through cold working; it is suitable for welding using TIG/GTAW and MIG/GMAW methods.

Corrosion Resistance of Inconel 600

Corrosion Resistance of Inconel 600

The composition of Inconel 600 alloy enables it to withstand a variety of corrosive media.

Its chromium content makes it superior to commercially pure nickel under oxidizing conditions, while its high nickel content provides considerable corrosion resistance under reducing conditions. The nickel content also gives it excellent corrosion resistance to alkaline solutions.

The alloy exhibits good corrosion resistance to strongly oxidizing acid solutions.

However, oxidation by dissolved oxygen alone is not sufficient to ensure complete passivation, nor does it protect against attack by air-saturated mineral acids and certain concentrated organic acids.

FAQ

Q1 What is the unified international grade of Inconel 600? What core standards apply to different products?

A Inconel 600 unified UNS code UNS N06600. Bar follows ASTM B166/AMS5665; tube follows ASTM B167 seamless & ASTM B409 welded; sheet/plate implements ASTM B168. All standards mutually recognized by global chemical, aerospace and nuclear tender projects.

Q2 What is the maximum long-term safe service temperature of Inconel 600 alloy?

A Continuous stable service temperature ≤1090℃, excellent anti-oxidation performance under static high temperature; outstanding chloride corrosion resistance at 600~900℃, irreplaceable for sulfur-containing furnace flue gas and nuclear radioactive medium.

Q3 Does Inconel 600 tube/sheet/bar need aging heat treatment?

A No aging required, it belongs to solid solution strengthened nickel alloy. Only single 1010~1050℃ air cooling solution annealing can maximize corrosion resistance, cold forming ductility and high-temperature oxidation performance; aging treatment will reduce plasticity and is prohibited for all export finished products.

Q4 What product is most widely exported for Middle East chemical reformer furnace projects?

BA bright seamless Inconel 600 round tube, no inner wall oxide scale, avoid medium contamination, stable anti-oxidation under long-term furnace high temperature, accounts for 80% of Middle East furnace bulk orders.

Q5 What melting grade is required for nuclear reactor equipment export batches?

VIM vacuum melting grade is the standard choice, full batch PMI traceability record, complete NDT inspection report, matched dual-use material export permit to pass nuclear power project supplier audit and cross-border customs clearance.

Q6 What delivery cycle for standard stock Inconel 600 products?

Conventional stock tube/sheet/bar:7–15 working days after deposit; custom processing (U-bend tube, laser cutting plate, precision ground bar):15–25 working days; customized large vacuum ingot production:30–45 working days, priority production for urgent nuclear & chemical EPC orders.

Q7 Recommended welding process for thin Inconel 600 tube & sheet for aero & nuclear equipment?

Low heat input TIG/GTAW welding is exclusively recommended; post-weld stress relief annealing at 1020℃ is suggested to restore anti-corrosion and high-temperature performance, we provide free professional welding parameter sheet upon request.
