Monel 400 alloy is a nickel copper alloy which has high strength over a wide temperature range up to 1000 F. It is regarded as being a ductile Nickel-Copper alloy with resistance to a wide variety of corrosive conditions. This alloy is most frequently applied in a range of environments going from mildly oxidizing through neutral and to moderately reducing conditions. Additional application area of this material is in marine environments and other non-oxidizing chloride solutions. Like with commercially pure Nickel, Monel® 400 is low in strength in the annealed condition, for this reason a variety of tempers are used to achieve higher strength levels. Monel 400 is one of the few alloys that maintains its strength in sub-zero or cryogenic temperatures, so it is often used in those applications.

Monel 400 is essential in heat exchangers, chemical plant equipment, and boiler feeders. It is ideal in wire or rod form and is excellent for trolling wire due to its resistance to seawater. Monel 400 provide superior quality for different types of mechanical, and general engineering applications. Monel 400 is corrosion resistant to most salts, water, alkalis, organic substances, food products, and atmospheric conditions at both normal and elevated temperatures.
GNEE Monel 400 Round Bar Feature
• Corrosion resistance in an extensive range of marine and chemical environments. From pure water to nonoxidizing mineral acids, salts and alkalis.
• This alloy is more resistant to nickel under reducing conditions and more resistant than copper under oxidizing conditions, it does show however better resistance to reducing media than oxidizing.
• Good mechanical properties from subzero temperatures up to about 480C.
• Good resistance to sulfuric and hydrofluoric acids. Aeration however will result in increased corrosion rates. May be used to handle hydrochloric acid, but the presence of oxidizing salts will greatly accelerate corrosive attack.
• Resistance to neutral, alkaline and acid salts is shown, but poor resistance is found with oxidizing acid salts such as ferric chloride.
• Excellent resistance to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking.
