Corrosion Resistance of Monel 400
Monel 400 alloy is virtually immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking in typical environments. Generally, it exhibits very good corrosion resistance in reducing environments but poorer resistance under oxidizing conditions. It is not suitable for oxidizing acids such as nitric and nitrous acids. However, it is resistant to most alkalis, salts, water, foodstuffs, organic substances, and atmospheric environments at both ambient and elevated temperatures.
This nickel alloy is susceptible to corrosion in sulfur-containing gases above approximately 700°F, and molten sulfur will also corrode the alloy at temperatures above approximately 500°F.
Monel 400 has roughly the same corrosion resistance as pure nickel, but due to its superior machinability, it offers higher maximum operating pressures and temperatures at a lower cost.

Applications of Monel 400
