SS 317 is an adapted version of other stainless steel alloy having an accumulation of molybdenum alloy. This is done to increase the strength and to improve the pitting corrosion resistance. The plates of SS 317 alloy have good toughness and temperature strength. On the other hand, stainless steel 317L is the lower carbon version of 317-grade alloy and offers the same resistance to corrosion and strength. They both have high stress-to-rapture and higher tensile strength. The cold working is done on Stainless steel 317/317L and can be annealed at the temperature range of 1850 F and 2050 F.
