What Is The Difference Between 825 Alloy And 316 SS?

Corrosion Resistance

In addition, it resists stress corrosion cracking and pitting. On the other hand, SS316 is a stainless steel alloy that contains molybdenum, which enhances its corrosion resistance. It is particularly suitable for applications involving acetic, sulfuric, and hydrochloric acids. However, it is susceptible to pitting in chloride environments.
Temperature Limits
Both Incoloy 825 and SS316 perform well at high temperatures. Incoloy 825 has a high temperature limit of 870°C (1600°F), while SS316 can withstand temperatures up to 815°C (1500°F). However, Incoloy 825 is better suited for very high temperature applications above 540°C (1000°F).
Weldability
In terms of weldability, SS316 is superior to Incoloy 825. SS316 can be easily welded using most conventional welding techniques, such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), stick metal arc welding (SMAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW). However, welding of Incoloy 825 requires more care and preparation, and can be prone to cracking and other defects if not done properly.
