The difference between Hastelloy B3 round rod and Hastelloy B2 rod
Compared to B2, B3 has better hydrochloric acid resistance and exhibits excellent resistance to embrittlement during heat treatment and welding. Hastelloy B2 is more resistant to sensitization, a form of corrosion that can occur when an alloy is heated and cooled.

What is Hastelloy B3 Rod?
Hastelloy B-3 alloy rod is a nickel-molybdenum alloy that offers excellent resistance to pitting, corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, and better thermal stability than alloy B-2. This nickel-steel alloy also offers excellent resistance to tool mark and heat-affected zone corrosion.

Difference Between Hastelloy B3 Round Bar vs Hastelloy B2
Chemical Composition:
Hastelloy B3 has a higher nickel content than Hastelloy B2, which makes it more resistant to a wider range of corrosive chemicals. Hastelloy B3 has a nickel content of up to 69%, while Hastelloy B2 only has 65%. Hastelloy B3 also contains molybdenum, making it more resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion.
Hastelloy B3 and Hastelloy B2 are two high-performance nickel alloys known for their excellent corrosion resistance in a wide range of corrosive media. The main alloying elements of both alloys are nickel, molybdenum, chromium, tungsten, iron, manganese and copper. The main difference between the two alloys is that Hastelloy B3 generally contains higher niobium, which improves its corrosion resistance in certain oxidizing environments. In addition to the increased niobium content, the compositions of the two alloys also differ slightly in terms of the content of nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo) and cobalt (Co).
Temperature Resistance:
This is where Hastelloy B2 comes in handy. It can withstand temperatures up to 1,200 °C (2,200 °F), making it ideal for high-temperature applications. Hastelloy B3 can withstand temperatures up to 1,070 °C (1,950 °F), slightly lower than Hastelloy B2.
Both Hastelloy B3 round bars and Hastelloy B2 offer excellent high-temperature resistance for use in high-temperature applications. At 30-40°C, both metals have been tested and resist oxidation without deformation or discoloration. The main difference between the two is that Hastelloy B3 has superior corrosion resistance and mechanical strength over Hastelloy B2, making it ideal for environments with frequent temperature changes in this temperature range.
Resistance to Corrosion:
Both alloys offer corrosion resistance, but Hastelloy B3 offers better resistance to a wide range of chemicals, such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid. In contrast, Hastelloy B2 is well suited for use in reducing environments, such as hydrogen chloride gas, hydrofluoric acid, and acetic acid. Hastelloy B2 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance to non-oxidizing acids, such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and reducing media. The main difference between Hastelloy B3 and B2 is their corrosion resistance. Hastelloy B3 offers excellent corrosion resistance in hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures, while Hastelloy B2 is moderately resistant. In addition, Hastelloy B3 has a higher dissolved molybdenum content than its counterpart, which makes it better protected against pitting and crevice corrosion in oxidizing media. When comparing Hastelloy family alloys for corrosive environments, try to select the right alloy for your specific chemical environment, as both alloys offer distinct advantages depending on your application.
