ASTM B865 UNS N05500 Nickel Alloy Rod
ASTM B865 UNS N05500 bar is a high-strength, precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy bar (Monel K-500) with excellent corrosion resistance, especially in seawater, and is non-magnetic. It is suitable for high-precision applications such as marine, oil and gas, pump shafts, impellers, valve components, and non-magnetic tools. The material is strengthened by adding aluminum and titanium, followed by heat treatment to form a precipitate.
What is the difference between Monel 400 and Monel 500?
Monel K500 is a nickel-copper alloy with aluminum and titanium added for corrosion resistance and strength. Monel 400, on the other hand, is a nickel-copper alloy without the aluminum and titanium additions, which provide corrosion resistance and ease of machining.

Mechanical Properties (Aged Condition)
Tensile Strength: Approximately 896-1310 MPa.
Yield Strength: Approximately 586-827 MPa.
Elongation: 30-20%.
Heat Treatment
Heating the alloy at 595-620°C (1100-1150°F) for several hours causes precipitation hardening, forming fine, dispersed Ni₃(Al,Ti) precipitates that enhance the alloy's strength.
Applications
Marine Industry: Due to its high strength and low corrosion resistance in high-velocity seawater, it is used in the manufacture of pump shafts, impellers, and propeller shafts.
Oil and Gas: Suitable for valve components, bolts, and oil well drill collars.
High-Precision Equipment: Due to its low magnetic permeability and stability, it can be used in the manufacture of non-magnetic tools and electronic components.
Other Applications: It is also found in chemical processing, offshore drilling towers, and high-precision equipment such as gyroscopes.
