ASTM B514 Inconel 800H Inconel nickel alloy welded pipe for natural gas processing

ASTM B514 Inconel 800H Inconel nickel alloy welded pipe for natural gas processing
ASTM B514 Inconel 800H (UNS N08800) is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy welded pipe designed for high-temperature and corrosive environments. It is commonly used in applications such as natural gas processing, steam superheating, and heat exchangers in the petrochemical, chemical, and power generation industries. Its key properties include resistance to high-temperature corrosion, oxidation, carburization, and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, as well as excellent mechanical properties such as high strength and toughness, making it suitable for harsh service conditions.
What is the microstructure of Incoloy 800H?
Incoloy 800H has an austenitic structure and typically contains titanium nitride, titanium carbide, and chromium carbide. Nitrides are stable at all temperatures below their melting point and are therefore unaffected by hot working. Chromium carbide precipitates between 540 and 1095°C.

Incoloy 800H Welded Pipe Processing
Hot Working:
1. The temperature range is 1200°C to 950°C. Cooling methods include water quenching or rapid air cooling.
2. For optimal performance and creep resistance, solution treatment should be performed after hot working.
3. The material can be directly charged into a furnace heated to 1200°C, held at this temperature for a sufficient period, and then quickly removed from the furnace for hot working within the specified temperature range. Reheating is required if the material temperature drops below the hot working temperature.
Cold Working:
1. The work hardening rate is greater than that of austenitic stainless steel, so appropriate processing equipment must be selected. Cold-worked material should be in the solution heat-treated state. Intermediate annealing should be performed if the cold working amount is significant.
2. If the cold working amount exceeds 10%, the workpiece requires secondary solution treatment.
Incoloy 800H pipe welding process
It is suitable for welding the same material or other metals using any conventional welding process, such as tungsten inert gas welding, plasma arc welding, manual arc welding, metal inert gas welding, and gas metal arc welding. Pulsed arc welding is the preferred method. If manual arc welding is used, the recommended shielding gas is (Ar+He+H2+CO2).
