ASTM B407 UNS N08810 Nickel Alloy Steel Cold-Drawn Tube

ASTM B407 UNS N08810 is a cold-drawn seamless tube of nickel-iron-chromium alloy (Incoloy 800H), renowned for its high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and high-temperature stability. Due to its superior resistance to oxidation, carburization, high-temperature creep, and fracture, it is widely used in harsh applications such as petrochemicals and power generation. The cold-drawing process significantly improves its mechanical properties and ensures a smooth surface.

What is the difference between Alloy 800 and Alloy 800H?

Generally speaking, Alloy 800 exhibits higher mechanical properties at room temperature and under short-term high-temperature exposure, while Alloys 800H and 800HT demonstrate superior creep strength and fracture strength under prolonged high-temperature exposure.

Alloy 800 And Alloy 800H

ASTM B407 UNS N08810, or Incoloy 800, is a nickel-iron-chromium high-temperature alloy seamless steel pipe designed for extremely high-temperature and corrosive environments. Its chemical composition is based on nickel, chromium, and iron, with trace elements such as aluminum and titanium added to enhance oxidation and carburization resistance.

This alloy maintains excellent oxidation resistance, carburization resistance, and mechanical strength at temperatures up to 1100°C, and exhibits good resistance to sulfide and chloride stress corrosion cracking.

N08810 steel pipes are widely used in critical equipment such as petrochemical cracking furnaces, ethylene cracking pipes, nuclear power heat exchangers, and thermal power boilers, especially suitable for high-temperature oxidizing, carburizing, or sulfiding environments.

Compared to traditional stainless steel, it offers superior high-temperature strength, thermal fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance; and its cost is lower than high-nickel alloys, making it an ideal choice balancing performance and cost.

N08810 pipes can provide long-term stable service in environments containing chloride ions, sulfides, or acidic media.

Applications of ASTM B407 UNS N08810 Pipes

1. Petrochemical and Refining

High nickel content (30-35%) and chromium content (19-23%) prevent scaling and embrittlement during hydrocarbon processing.

2. Power Generation, Superheaters/Reheaters, Waste Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG)

3. Chemical Processing, Catalytic Reactors, Waste Incineration Systems

4. Heat Treatment and Hot Working, Annealing Furnaces

5. Oil and Gas (Upstream/Downstream)

6. Aerospace: Exhaust systems and afterburners requiring resistance to thermal fatigue.

7. Cryogenic Applications: Due to its good toughness, it is suitable for cryogenic environments down to -200°C.
