ASTM B514 N08800 Nickel-based nickel alloy natural gas processing pipe

ASTM B514 N08800 Nickel-based nickel alloy natural gas processing pipe
ASTM B514 N08800 is a standard for welded nickel-based alloy pipes. Due to their excellent high-temperature strength, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, and carburization resistance, they are ideal for natural gas processing. Their main characteristics include a nickel-chromium-iron composition, high strength, and good weldability, making them suitable for harsh environments.
What is the difference between Alloy 800 and Incoloy 800?
The fundamental difference between Incoloy 800 and Alloy 800 lies in their composition. Incoloy 800 is an austenitic nickel-iron-chromium alloy, with titanium and aluminum added to stabilize its structure. Its chromium content is typically higher than that of Alloy 800, ranging from 19.0% to 23.0% by weight.

ASTM B514 Inconel 800H N08800 Nickel-Based Alloy Welded Pipe (for Gas Treatment)
ASTM B514 is a standard developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) specifically for "welded nickel-iron-chromium alloy pipes," specifying the chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensional tolerances, test methods, and technical requirements. UNS N08800 alloy steel is more commonly referred to commercially as Incoloy 800.
While strictly speaking, Incoloy 800 welded pipe is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with a nickel content of approximately 30-35% and an iron content of approximately 39%, its properties are closer to those of nickel-based alloys, hence it is often referred to as a nickel-based alloy. Unlike seamless pipe, welded pipe is manufactured by cold-rolling flat sheets or coils and then welding the seams together. The commonly used welding method is inert gas shielded welding, such as argon arc welding (TIG).
ASTM B514 N08800 Welded Pipe Quality Control and Testing Requirements
Chemical Composition Analysis: Verify that the alloy composition meets the requirements of the N08800 welded pipe standard.
Mechanical Property Testing: For example, tensile testing to verify tensile strength, yield strength, etc.
Hydrostatic Testing or Non-Destructive Testing: Each pipe must undergo a hydrostatic test, or other non-destructive testing methods such as eddy current testing or radiographic testing, to verify its sealing and weld integrity.
Dimensional and Wall Thickness Inspection
Weld Macrostructure Inspection: Inspect the weld fusion and shape quality.
Intergranular Corrosion Testing (if applicable): Assess the material's resistance to intergranular corrosion.
