Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a solid solution alloy that consists of nickel and copper in its composition. While nickel makes up about 67%, the copper content in the chemical composition of Monel 400 pipes is about 23%. As is typical with most nickel-containing alloys, this grade tends to have high strength even at elevated temperatures. Although it is not recommended to use Monel 400 Seamless Pipes at temperatures exceeding 1000° F.
This Monel alloy has a melting point range of 2370° F – 2460° F. The high melting point indicates better dimensional stability for ASTM B165 Alloy 400 Seamless Tubing, especially since high temperatures often cause changes in the molecular flow of metals, altering their appearance.
