What Material Is 601 Alloy?

What material is 601 alloy?

Alloy 601, also called N06601 alloy, INCONEL601, 2.4851, etc., is a nickel-chromium alloy with a small amount of aluminum added. It has good resistance to high-temperature oxidation and corrosion. At high temperatures, 601 alloy has good mechanical properties. Due to the controlled carbon content and grain size, 601 alloy also has high creep rupture strength.

Alloy Properties

1. Excellent oxidation resistance in high-temperature corrosion and sulfur-containing atmospheres.

2. Excellent carbonation resistance.

3. It has good mechanical properties at room temperature and high temperature.

4. Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking.

Implementation standards

Implementation standards for various forms of 601 alloy:

1. Flat coil and strip: ASTM B168 and ASME SB168;

2. Bar: ASTM B166 and ASME SB166;

3. Rolled nickel and nickel alloy plates, sheets and strips: ASTM B906 and ASME SB906;

4. Pipe materials: ASTM B167 and ASME SB167;

5. Heat exchange tube: ASTM B163 and ASME SB163;

6. Nickel and nickel alloy seamless and nominal welded pipes: ASTM B751 and ASME SB751; ASTM B775 and ASME SB775; ASTM B829 and ASME SB829;

7. Nickel alloy forgings: ASTM B564 and ASME SB564.

Corrosion resistance

An important property of 601 alloy is its oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 1180°C. Even under very harsh conditions such as heating and cooling cycles, 601 can form a dense oxide film and achieve high spalling resistance.

601 also has good carbonation resistance. Due to its high chromium and aluminum content, 601 has good oxidation resistance in high-temperature sulfur-containing atmospheres.

Matching welding materials
