ASTM B165 MONEL 400 Nickel Alloy Seamless Pipe for Offshore Use
ASTM B165 Monel 400 seamless pipe is a nickel-copper alloy (UNS N04400) renowned for its excellent resistance to seawater, acids, and alkalis, making it well-suited for use in marine environments. It exhibits high strength and toughness over a wide temperature range and is strengthened by cold working rather than heat treatment. Due to its low corrosion rate in flowing saltwater and resistance to stress corrosion cracking, its applications in marine environments include handling corrosive fluids, high-pressure systems, and offshore engineering.

What is the maximum operating temperature of Monel 400?
Hot working temperatures range from 1700°F to 2150°F. Optimum working temperature is approximately 2000°F. By properly controlling the amount of hot working and/or cold working and selecting the appropriate heat treatment method, a wide range of mechanical properties can be achieved in the finished product.

Offshore Applications
Offshore Engineering: Widely used in marine applications due to its excellent corrosion resistance in flowing seawater and brackish water.
Offshore Drilling: Used in offshore drilling operations in the oil and gas industry to handle corrosive fluids.
High-Pressure Systems: Due to its high strength and corrosion resistance, it is an ideal choice for high-pressure piping and valves in offshore facilities.
Desalination: Used in desalination plants and other marine engineering projects.
Standards and Specifications
Standard: ASTM B165 specifies seamless pipe for this alloy.
Designation: UNS (Unified Numbering System) designation is N04400.
Condition: Pipe is typically supplied in the annealed or stress-relieved condition.
Why Offshore Applications
Monel 400 seamless pipe offers excellent corrosion resistance in harsh marine environments, along with good mechanical properties and high strength across a wide temperature range, making it a critical material for the demanding conditions of offshore installations.

Gnee Steel specializes in the production of various nickel-based alloys. Gnee Steel's product packaging includes steel strapping: Pipes with an outer diameter of 3 inches or less are typically strapped together with polypropylene film to prevent rust during sea transportation, and then secured with steel strapping. Wooden boxes/crates: Pipes are typically packaged in wooden boxes or crates to protect them during transportation, especially those that are longer or have larger diameters. Seaworthy export packaging: Suppliers typically use standard seaworthy export packaging methods, which may include a variety of materials and techniques to protect the pipes during transportation. Tarpaulin packaging: This prevents rain, seawater, and other external factors from penetrating the export wooden crates during transportation. Gnee Steel specializes in the production and sale of alloy materials. Gnee Steel's products are widely used in aerospace, chemical, power, automotive, and nuclear energy industries, and we can provide customized alloy material solutions based on customer needs.
