Chemical composition and physical properties
Chemical composition:
The main components of Hastelloy C22 and Hastelloy C276 include nickel, chromium, molybdenum, iron and tungsten. The chemical composition of C22 includes: Ni 59%, Cr 20%, Mo 16%, Fe 3%, W 2%.
The chemical composition of C276 includes: Ni 63%, Cr 20%, Mo 16%, Fe 3%, C 0.015%.
Physical properties: Both alloys have a density of 8.9 g/cm³ and a melting point between 1325-1370℃. The self-corrosion potential of Hastelloy C22 in HNO₃ is much higher than that in HCl, because the cathode reaction of HNO₃ produces a higher equilibrium potential of NO/NO₂.
Corrosion resistance: Hastelloy C22 performs well in various corrosive media, especially for handling strong acids and strong bases, such as nitric acid and sulfuric acid.
C276 has stronger corrosion resistance, especially in oxidizing media, and its high chromium content makes it very resistant to oxidizing and reducing acids. C276 is also resistant to corrosion by moist chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solutions.
Application areas:
Hastelloy C22 is often used in environments that handle strong acids and strong bases, such as the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
C276 is suitable for various chemical process industries containing oxidizing and reducing media, especially in mixed acid environments, such as the discharge pipe of the flue gas desulfurization system.
Mechanical properties Tensile strength and yield strength:
Hastelloy C22 has a tensile strength of 690 MPa, a yield strength of 283 MPa and an elongation of 40% at room temperature. There are also detailed data on the mechanical properties of C276 at different temperatures. For example, at -196°C, the yield strength is 565 MPa, the tensile strength is 965 MPa, and the elongation is 45%.
