Comparison of Incoloy 800H and Inconel 601 materials

Both Incoloy 800H and Inconel 601 are high-temperature nickel alloys, but Inconel 601 has significantly higher nickel (>60%) and aluminum content, giving it superior high-temperature strength and excellent oxidation resistance, making it ideal for extreme high-temperature environments. Incoloy 800H, on the other hand, has a lower nickel content (approximately 40%) and a higher iron content. It is designed to enhance creep resistance and carburization resistance, making it highly suitable for chemical processing equipment, heat exchangers, and furnace components that require sustained stress at high temperatures. The main difference lies in their composition and primary performance characteristics: Inconel 601 focuses on high-temperature resistance, while Incoloy 800H focuses on creep strength.

Does Inconel 601 have good machinability?

A prominent feature of INCONEL alloy 601 is its excellent resistance to high-temperature oxidation. This alloy also possesses good resistance to aqueous corrosion, high mechanical strength, and is easy to form, machine, and weld.

Inconel 601

Inconel 601 is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy strengthened and protected at high temperatures by the addition of aluminum. Its core characteristic is its exceptionally excellent resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation at extreme temperatures up to approximately 1250°C, while maintaining superior high-temperature strength and thermal stability. It is designed for applications requiring long-term exposure to high-temperature corrosive atmospheres, such as high-temperature heat treatment equipment, industrial furnace components, combustion systems, petrochemical cracking tubes, and aerospace hot-end components. It is particularly suitable for harsh operating conditions involving alternating oxidation and reduction, making it a top-tier material for solving high-temperature oxidation and thermal fatigue problems.

Incoloy 800H is a high-carbon stabilized version of the Incoloy 800 series. Its core characteristic is that, through a higher carbon content (0.05-0.10%) and specific solution heat treatment, it provides excellent creep resistance, carburization resistance, and high-temperature oxidation resistance at temperatures up to approximately 815°C, while maintaining superior high-temperature strength and structural stability. It is designed for extreme environments requiring long-term resistance to high temperature, high pressure, and thermal cycling, such as petrochemical cracking furnace tubes, high-temperature heat exchangers, industrial heaters, and nuclear power plant steam generators, making it a key material for high-temperature pressure-bearing and thermal fatigue applications.
