The wear of Inconel 718 alloy was established using an energy-based finite element model. Considering the severe practical scenario, the Johnson-Cook constitutive model is implemented, and the linear isotropic hardening model captures the plastic behavior. Compared to the experimental measurements, the finite element results show an unprecedented consistency of wear losses with an error of less than 2%. Therefore, we conclude that the finite element model constructed in this study has high accuracy and can be used to analyze the effect of UNSM on wear behavior. According to the finite element analysis, the improvement of wear resistance caused by UNSM decreases with the increase of normal load. Since the finite element model is based on the energy method, the influence of the friction coefficient (COF) and the wear coefficient modified by UNSM is studied respectively. According to the findings, the COF and wear coefficient modified by UNSM play an important role in determining wear characteristics. Since a large amount of material is removed from the central area of the Inconel 718 surface through wear, it can also be observed that the severe plastic strain is mainly concentrated at the edges of the wear scar.
