SS420 Stainless Steel Plate&Sheet

SS 420 stainless steel plate is a high-carbon steel with a minimum chromium content of 12%, providing moderate corrosion resistance and high strength. This grade is part of the martensitic stainless steel family, which is known for being hardenable through heat treatment. SS 420 is often referred to as "surgical steel" due to its use in medical instruments.

Corrosion Resistance: SS 420 provides good resistance to mild acids, alkalis, fresh water, and atmosphere. Its corrosion resistance is lower compared to austenitic grades like 304 but is adequate for many applications.

High Strength and Hardness: This alloy can be heat treated to achieve a wide range of hardness levels, making it suitable for applications requiring high wear resistance and strength.

Heat Treatability: SS 420 can be hardened by heat treatment, achieving hardness levels up to 50 HRC. The typical hardening process involves heating the steel to a temperature between 980°C and 1035°C (1796°F to 1895°F), followed by air or oil quenching and tempering.

Magnetic Properties: Like other martensitic stainless steels, SS 420 is magnetic in both the annealed and hardened conditions, which is useful in applications requiring magnetic properties.

Applications: Due to its hardness and strength, SS 420 is used in various applications such as cutting tools, surgical instruments, needle valves, and other components that require high wear resistance.
