What material is Monel400 made of?
Monel400 copper-nickel alloy-corrosion-resistant nickel alloy
Monel400 copper-nickel alloy has low strength in the annealed state, therefore, in the rolled state, it exhibits a higher degree of strength. Alloy 400 is a ductile, corrosion-resistant copper-nickel alloy. Alloy 400 is widely used in oxidizing, neutral and reducing environments. It is also used in underwater environments and chloride solutions that cannot be oxidized.
Monel400 copper-nickel alloy (UNSN004400) specifications
Monel400 copper-nickel alloy is a nickel-based alloy that can withstand various corrosive environments.
General Properties Monel Alloy, Monel 400 (UNSN04400) is a soft copper-nickel alloy that is resistant to various corrosive environments. This alloy is often named for use in mild oxidizing environments, neutral environments, and waning environments. Another area of application is in marine environments and other non-oxidizing chloride solutions.

The alloy has a long history as a corrosion-resistant material, dating back to the 20th century. At the time, it was intended to be used as a nickel metal with a high copper content. Roughly equal amounts of nickel and copper in the metal are now officially specified as a requirement for production of the alloy.
As a commercially available pure nickel, Monel400 copper-nickel alloy has low strength under annealed conditions. For this reason, various tempering methods must be used to increase the strength of the material.
