Machining properties and strength of GH3030 material for aero-engine flame tubes

Machining properties and strength of GH3030 material for aero-engine flame tubes
GH3030 seamless tubing is an 8ONi-20Cr solution-strengthened nickel-based superalloy tube (also known as XH78T or El435). Due to its high thermal stability, excellent oxidation resistance (up to 1100℃), and superior weldability, it is widely used in aero-engine flame tubes (combustion chambers) and afterburners. It maintains high plasticity and satisfactory strength even at operating temperatures ranging from 800℃ to 950℃.
What is the hardness of nimonic 75?
Nimonic 75 is a Nickel-based heat resistant superalloy (HRSA) material with a Machinability rating of 17% and Hardness of 90 HRB.

XH78T High-Temperature Alloy Tubing Strength and High-Temperature Performance
High-Temperature Strength: Provides reliable structural integrity for components exposed to high-temperature, low-load environments. Ideal for long-term use at temperatures below 950°C.
Oxidation and Corrosion Resistance: With a nickel content >72% and a chromium content of approximately 20%, it forms a dense, self-healing oxide layer, exhibiting excellent resistance to oxidation, sulfidation, and corrosion in combustion environments.
Thermal Fatigue Resistance: Exhibits excellent thermal fatigue resistance, crucial for flame tubes subjected to cyclic thermal loads.
Microstructure Stability: After solution treatment (1140-1180°C), the material retains a stable single-phase austenitic structure.
Applications in Flame Tubes
GH3030 is primarily selected for flame tubes due to the following characteristics:
Formability: Easily molded into complex shapes.
Thermal Stability: Excellent thermal cycling stability, resisting deformation even under the high temperature and vibration conditions of the combustion chamber.
High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance: Maintains stable performance even under extreme high-temperature environments.

FAQ
Q1: Is post-weld heat treatment necessary for GH3030 flame tubes?
A: No. One of the greatest advantages of GH3030 is that it is typically used in the as-welded condition. This significantly simplifies the manufacturing process and prevents the risk of distortion during complex aging cycles.
Q2: How does GH3030 compare to Nimonic 75 for aviation use?
A: GH3030 is the direct equivalent of Nimonic 75 (UNS N06075). Our materials meet and often exceed the specifications of BS HR5, making them a safe and Cost-effective Solution for international aerospace blueprints.
Q3: Can GH3030 handle the corrosive gases in a flame tube?
A: Yes. Its high chromium content (19-22%) provides excellent Oxidation Resistance and stability against combustion products, ensuring a long Material Life Cycle.
