Monel Alloys
Gnee Steel supplies Monel 400, Monel R405 and Monel K500 metal alloys
Monel (white copper) is a metal super alloy containing approximately 65-70% nickel, 20-29% copper and 5% manganese. Gnee Steel is an ISO certified direct supplier of Monel in a wide range of specifications including pipe, tube, wire, sheet and plate. Our Monel alloys offer strong resistance to chemical attack, salt water, acid and alkaline solutions. Due to its corrosion resistant composition, Monel is ideal for the oil, marine, chemical processing and other industries where equipment is susceptible to corrosion. Gnee Steel offers customization, short lead times and fast delivery for all Monel orders. We supply Monel as single piece orders or complete bills of materials.

Monel 400 | UNS N04400
Monel 400 is a nickel-copper alloy that is hardened only by cold working. Monel 400 exhibits good weldability and medium-to-high strength metallic properties. Monel 400 exhibits excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosive agents as it resists seawater, high temperature steam, corrosive solutions, and salts. 400 plate is available in thicknesses ranging from 0.018 to 0.140 inches, and bars are available in forged bars up to 11 inches in diameter. Seamless pipe is available up to 8 inches NB, while tubing is available up to 3 inches.
Monel 400 Properties
The Monel 400 series is useful in temperatures up to 1000°F (538°C) and in high temperature steam environments. It is frequently used in aerospace, chemical processing, and mechanical engineering. Applications include:
Industrial heat exchangers
Boiler feedwater heaters
Chlorinated solvents
Offshore engineering

Monel R405 | N04405
Monel R405 is a non-machining version of the 400 series. Monel R405 has the same composition as Monel 400, but with added sulfur. The added sulfur acts as a chip breaker during machining, providing better machinability than the 400 grade. The alloy also offers excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and weldability. Applications include instrument and valve parts, fasteners, screw machine products, refinery piping, and more.
Monel R405 Specifications
Monel R405 nickel alloy meets a variety of industrial and international specifications, including:
UNS N04405
ASME SB-164
AMS 4674
QQ-N-281
Monel K500 | N05500
The enhanced performance characteristics of Monel K500 are obtained by adding aluminum and titanium to the nickel-copper base. This produces a high-strength Monel variant whose hardness and strength are increased by precipitation hardening heat treatment.
Monel K500 Applications
Monel K500 is well suited for a variety of corrosive applications, including centrifugal pump shafts. Other uses include:
Scrapers and scrapers
Oil well drill collars and instruments
Electronic components
Springs
Monel Material Advantages
Each Monel alloy offers its own unique set of features, depending on the application. Monel metal material has high corrosion resistance, making Monel an ideal choice for saltwater, freshwater, and other challenging environments. Monel has excellent strength, even stronger than steel. Monel is very easy to forge and can be brazed, welded, and soldered. Monel can be formed into a variety of shapes, including sheets, tubes, bars, plates, flanges, and more. Monel is also highly resistant to alkalis and is resistant to acids. In addition, it also has a low coefficient of thermal expansion.
Monel Nickel-Copper Metal Alloy for Corrosion Resistant Applications
Monel super alloys are often used in environments and applications that require high corrosion resistance and high strength. Direct applications include:
Marine components
Pump shafts
Chemical processing equipment
Heat exchangers
Valves and fittings
