What is the difference between Incoloy 800 and Incoloy 800H?

What is the difference between Incoloy 800 and Incoloy 800H?

The main difference lies in the fact that Incoloy 800H has a controllable higher carbon content and undergoes solution heat treatment, which gives it superior creep strength and stress fracture strength compared to Incoloy 800 at high temperatures. Incoloy 800 is typically used for medium-high temperature applications, while Incoloy 800H is better suited for long-term high-temperature service, above 1100°F (593°C).

What is the maximum operating temperature of INCOLOY 800H?

The 800H alloy is a solution-treated (2100°F/1150°C) version of the 800 alloy, employing a controlled carbonization process and exhibiting superior high-temperature performance. Its creep and stress-fracture properties are significantly improved within a temperature range of 1100°F (593°C) to 1800°F (982°C).

INCOLOY 800H

Incoloy 800

Composition: A standard iron-nickel-chromium alloy with a carbon content up to 0.10%.

Processing: Untreated.

Properties: Good resistance to oxidation and carburization; moderate strength at room temperature.

Applications: Suitable for general high-temperature applications, such as heat exchangers, process piping, and certain industrial furnace components.

Incoloy 800H

Composition: A derivative of Alloy 800 with a carbon content controlled between 0.05-0.10% and specific grain size control.

Processing: Treated at 2100°F (1150°C).

Properties: Excellent creep strength and stress fracture strength at high temperatures.

Applications: Designed for prolonged exposure to high-temperature environments, such as reformers in petrochemicals, superheaters and reheaters in power generation, and high-temperature chemical equipment.
