What is the difference between Monel 405 and 400?
Monel R405 has the same composition as Monel 400, but with sulfur added. The added sulfur acts as a chipbreaker during machining, making it more machinable than grade 400. The alloy also has excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and weldability.

Will Monel 400 rust?
Monel 400 is a nickel-copper alloy characterized by good corrosion resistance, good weldability, and medium to high strength. It also resists attack by hot seawater and steam, as well as alkaline solutions and salts.

What is Monel 405 made of?
Monel 405 is typically made up of about 63% nickel and 28-34% copper. It also contains small amounts of carbon, iron, manganese, silicon, and sulfur.

What is the composition of 405 grade steel?
405 is a 12% chromium steel designed for use in a welded state. Unlike other 12% chromium steels, it does not harden significantly by air cooling at high temperatures.
