What are the differences between C276 alloy and 600 alloy

The main difference lies in their properties: Hastelloy C-276 is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy, primarily used for its excellent corrosion resistance in both oxidizing and reducing environments; while Incor Nickel 600 is a nickel-chromium alloy, better suited for high-temperature applications and possessing good oxidation resistance. Hastelloy C-276 performs exceptionally well in highly corrosive chemical processes, while Incor Nickel 600 is ideal for furnace components and heat treatment equipment.

What is the equivalent material for C276?

Equivalent materials for Hastelloy C276: Hastelloy C276 tubing is a corrosion-resistant alloy, and its equivalent materials include UNS N10276, WNR 2.4819, and ASTM B622. These materials have similar corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance.

Inconel 600 vs. Hastelloy C276 – 1. Chemical Composition

The fundamental difference between Inconel 600 and Hastelloy C276 lies in their chemical composition. Inconel 600 is primarily composed of nickel (approximately 72%), with chromium (15-17%) and iron (up to 10%) as its main alloying elements. This composition gives it excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance at high temperatures.

On the other hand, Hastelloy C276, also known as UNS N10276, is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with added tungsten. It contains approximately 57-61% nickel, 14.5-16.5% chromium, 15.0-17.0% molybdenum, and 3.0-4.5% tungsten. The high molybdenum and tungsten content of Hastelloy C276 gives it particularly strong corrosion resistance in reducing environments and corrosive chemicals.

Inconel 600 vs. Hastelloy C276 – 2. Mechanical Properties

Both alloys possess high strength and toughness, but their mechanical properties differ slightly. Inconel 600 exhibits excellent creep resistance and good fatigue strength, making it suitable for long-term service at high temperatures. It retains its mechanical properties even when exposed to high-temperature oxidizing atmospheres.

On the other hand, Hastelloy C276 is renowned for its excellent ductility and toughness, enabling it to withstand deformation and impact. It also possesses good weldability and is easily machined into complex shapes and structures.

Inconel 600 vs. Hastelloy C276 – 3. Corrosion Resistance

Both alloys are renowned for their excellent corrosion resistance, but they excel in different environments. Inconel 600 exhibits exceptional resistance to oxidation and corrosion in high-temperature oxidizing atmospheres, making it suitable for applications such as furnace components and heat treatment equipment.

On the other hand, Hastelloy C276 demonstrates superior corrosion resistance in reducing environments and corrosive chemicals, including hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and hydrogen sulfide. Its unique composition allows it to withstand even the most corrosive environments, making it a preferred material for chemical processing, pulp and paper manufacturing, and waste treatment facilities.

Inconel 600 vs. Hastelloy C276 – 4. Applications

The different properties of Inconel 600 and Hastelloy C276 determine their applications in different industrial sectors. Inconel 600 is commonly used in the oil and gas industry, nuclear power plants, and aerospace, where extremely high-temperature resistance is required. It maintains good mechanical properties even at high temperatures, making it suitable for components exposed to extreme heat.

On the other hand, Hastelloy C276 is widely used in the chemical industry, pulp and paper industry, and marine environments. Its excellent corrosion resistance in reducing environments and corrosive chemicals makes it the material of choice for equipment and pipelines handling corrosive media.
