Difference between Nickel Alloy and Stainless Steel
Although both nickel alloy and stainless steel are alloys containing nickel, their content and the proportion of other components are very different. Nickel alloy contains about 50% nickel, while stainless steel contains only 8-10% nickel. In addition, other elements such as chromium, molybdenum and iron are often added to nickel alloys to improve their performance, while stainless steel adds components similar to the nickel content, such as chromium, molybdenum, manganese, etc.
The properties of nickel alloy and stainless steel are very different, as shown below:
1. Corrosion resistance: Nickel alloys have a higher nickel content, so they have better corrosion resistance and resistance to oxidative corrosion. Nickel alloys perform better than stainless steel in harsh environments such as high temperature, strong acid and strong alkali.
2. Strength and hardness: Stainless steel has better strength and hardness, providing better mechanical properties. Nickel alloys have relatively lower strength and hardness, but better ductility.
3. Mobility: Nickel alloys have good wear resistance and heat deposition resistance, while stainless steel is not as good.
4. Cost: Nickel alloys are more expensive to produce because of their higher nickel content. The production cost of stainless steel is lower.
In practical applications, nickel alloys are mainly used for their advantages in high temperature and corrosive environments, and are often used to manufacture high-temperature alloys, furnaces, etc.; while stainless steel is used more for its excellent strength and cost-effectiveness, and is often used to manufacture kitchenware, chemical equipment, bridges, etc.
GNEE is an enterprise specializing in the production of stainless steel, duplex steel, super duplex steel, high temperature alloys, corrosion resistant alloys, non-ferrous metals (nickel, titanium, zirconium), and alloy flanges, pipe fittings and factory-made pipeline prefabrication. The company is committed to providing customers with high-quality and reliable stainless steel products and becoming a leader in the industry.
