ASTM B514 UNS NO8800 Inconel Alloy Welded Pipe for Petrochemical Industry

ASTM B514 UNS N08800 welded tubing is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy (Incoloy 800). Its durability and resistance to high temperatures, oxidation, and corrosion make it an ideal choice for the petrochemical industry. Key properties include high-temperature strength up to approximately 1500°F (816°C), excellent creep-rupture strength, resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, and the ability to withstand thermal cycling without degradation. This makes it suitable for heat exchangers in petroleum refining and for general corrosive service in petrochemical plants.

What are the ASTM specifications for Incoloy 800?

This nickel-iron-chromium alloy, Incoloy 800 pipe, maintains its austenitic microstructure even when exposed to high temperatures. According to ASTM B407, these pipes are annealed at 1800°F for 15 minutes. After annealing, the 800 alloy seamless pipe is air-cooled.

ASTM B514 is the standard specification for nickel-iron-chromium alloy welded pipe. ASTM B514 covers Incoloy 800 and Incoloy H alloys. This specification covers cold-worked and annealed welded pipe suitable for general corrosive and heat-resistant applications. ASTM B514 Incoloy 800 welded pipe is typically suitable for service temperatures up to 1100°F (593°C). ASTM B514 Incoloy 800H welded pipe is typically suitable for service temperatures above 1100°F (593°C) where creep and rupture resistance are required. They are annealed to produce a controlled grain size for optimal performance within this temperature range. These Incoloy alloys offer very high resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking and also exhibit good resistance to polythionic acid cracking. Therefore, these pipes are well-suited for use in high-temperature petrochemical environments.
