ASTM B167 INCONEL 600 High-Resistance Seamless Tubes for Heat Exchangers

ASTM B167 Inconel 600 high-strength seamless tubing is made of nickel-chromium alloy and is designed for high-temperature and corrosion-resistant applications, such as heat exchangers. It is known for its excellent resistance to high temperatures, redox reactions, chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, and acidic and alkaline media, maintaining strength across a range from low to high temperatures (2000°C or 1093°C). These tubings are commonly used in critical industries where other materials fail, such as chemical processing, nuclear engineering, and aerospace.

What temperatures can Inconel 600 withstand?

The hot working temperature range for Inconel 600 alloy is 1600 – 2250°F (870 – 1230°C). Heavy-duty working requires temperatures between 1900 – 2250°F (1040 – 1230°C), while light-duty working can be performed at temperatures as low as 1600°F (870°C).

Inconel 600

INCONEL (NiCrFe) alloy 600 (UNS N06600/W.Nr. 2.4816) is a standard engineering material suitable for applications requiring corrosion and heat resistance. This alloy also possesses excellent mechanical properties, combining high strength with good machinability.

Advantages of Gnee Steel Inconel 600 Tubing

Using nickel alloy tubing offers three main advantages:

Heat Resistance

Some nickel alloy tubing can withstand extremely high temperatures, thus providing an advantage in mechanical or other high-temperature environments.

Corrosion Resistance of Gnee Steel Inconel 600 Tubing

Oxidation reactions lead to corrosion. Nickel alloys oxidize more slowly than most metals, meaning they have a longer corrosion resistance life.

Low Thermal Expansion Rate of Gnee Steel Inconel 600 Tubing

Many nickel alloy tubings have a very low thermal expansion rate, or their thermal expansion rate can be predicted very precisely. This makes them ideal for high-temperature environments requiring uniform shape.

Gnee Steel Inconel 600 Pipe Manufacturing

Nickel alloy pipes are manufactured using a complex process, starting with the purest raw materials. Contaminated raw materials will result in pipes that do not possess the aforementioned advantages. The manufacturing process includes the following stages:

Smelting

Hot Rolling

Pickling

Annealing

Drawing

Cold Rolling/Slitting

Throughout the manufacturing process, a series of statistical tests are used to ensure quality control.

Common Applications

Heat Exchangers: Their corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance make them ideal for heat exchangers in harsh environments.

Chemical Processing: Used in the production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), magnesium chloride, and titanium dioxide, among others.

Nuclear Engineering: Suitable for nuclear reactor applications.

Heat Treatment: Commonly used in components of heat treatment furnaces.

Others: Applications include aerospace, petrochemicals, and food processing.

Manufacturing and Supply Status

The ASTM B167 standard specifies the standard for this alloy seamless tube.

The tube is available in a variety of sizes, such as different outer diameters (4-219 mm) and wall thicknesses (0.5-20 mm).

The tube can be supplied in straight or U-bend form and is available in a variety of surface finishes.
