However, the surface properties of DED printed Inconel 718 samples, such as surface roughness and abrasion resistance, are generally below standard. Ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) can be used as a post-processing method by introducing severe plastic deformation near the surface and leading to property changes. Uniaxial tensile testing shows that UNSM-treated Inconel 718 has higher mechanical properties.
