Hastelloy C-276 is a versatile nickel-molybdenum-chromium-tungsten alloy that offers excellent corrosion resistance and good machinability. While Hastelloy C-276 does have good oxidation resistance at temperatures up to 1800°F, it is generally not recommended for high temperature applications.
Nickel Alloy C-276 is capable of inhibiting the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the heat affected zone of welds, making it a candidate material for most chemical and petrochemical processing applications in the welded condition. HC276 is a nickel alloy with excellent resistance to reducing acids, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, brine solutions, oxidizing chlorides and hot seawater.
Hastelloy C-276 is also one of the few materials resistant to moisture chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide. This special nickel alloy offers excellent resistance to crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking and chloride pitting. Its low carbon content minimizes the precipitation of carbides during welding, maintaining its excellent corrosion resistance during welding. This means C-276 can be easily manufactured by welding using methods similar to nickel-based alloys.
