Hastelloy B2 description
Hastelloy B2 is a nickel-molybdenum alloy with outstanding resistance to reducing environments such as hydrogen chloride gas and sulfuric, acetic and phosphoric acids. Hastelloy B2 is resistant to pure sulfuric acid and a wide range of non-oxidizing acids. The alloy should not be used in oxidizing media or where oxidizing contaminants may be present in reducing media. The use of H2 alloy may result in premature failure if iron or copper is present in systems containing hydrochloric acid.
Industrial users value its resistance to a wide range of organic acids and its resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.
Hastelloy B2 inhibits the formation of grain boundary carbide precipitates in the weld heat affected zone, making it suitable for most chemical process applications in the as-welded condition. The reduced precipitation of carbides and other phases in the weld heat affected zone ensures uniform corrosion resistance. Hastelloy B2 also has excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking.

Alloy B-2 is suitable for use in the chemical processing industry, specifically in areas where hydrochloric acid, phosphoric and sulfuric acid are used or processed. Alloy B-2 has also been used in the production of pharmaceuticals, acetic acid, alkylation of ethylene and herbicides. Typical end use applications include pumps, valves, mechanical seals, rupture discs, flanges, fittings, tanks and vessels.
