Hastelloy C4 round bar is the most microstructurally stable of the widely used nickel-chromium-molybdenum materials and is known for its resistance to a wide range of corrosive chemicals, especially hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and chlorides. This stability means that C4 alloy forged round bar can be welded without worrying about sensitization. Harmful second phase precipitates will nucleate and grow at the grain boundaries in the weld heat affected zone.
