A nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy called Hastelloy C-22 has superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. It is suitable for use in the welded condition because it inhibits the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone. Due to its excellent resistance to reducing and oxidizing solutions, C-22 can be used in environments where "hot" conditions may occur. Hastelloy C22 plate and coil can also be deep drawn, spun, press-formed, or punched. However, the alloy has poor machinability.
Hastelloy C22 plate is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy that has better overall corrosion resistance and versatility than any other nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy. Although Hastelloy C22 coil is ductile enough to be formed by cold working, intermediate annealing may be required due to work hardening. The recommended starting temperature for hot forging of Alloy C22 plate is 1232 degrees Celsius (2250 degrees Fahrenheit) and the recommended ending temperature is 954 degrees Celsius (1750 degrees Fahrenheit). The Pitting Resistance Equivalent Value (PREN) of Alloy C22 coil is a quantitative method to measure corrosion resistance. The higher the value, the better the corrosion resistance.
