HASTELLOY C-276 alloy (UNS N10276) is the first wrought nickel-chromium-molybdenum material to offer reduced welding problems (very low carbon and silicon contents). As a result, it has gained wide acceptance in chemical processing and related industries and now has a proven record of reliable performance in a wide range of corrosive chemicals for more than 50 years.

Like other nickel alloys, it is ductile, easily formed and welded, and has excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (a form of degradation to which austenitic stainless steels are prone) in chloride-containing solutions. Due to its high chromium and molybdenum contents, it tolerates oxidizing and nonoxidizing acids, and exhibits excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in the presence of chlorides and other halides. In addition, it has strong resistance to sulfide stress cracking and stress corrosion cracking in sour oilfield environments.

HASTELLOY C-276 alloy is available in the form of plate, sheet, strip, billet, bar, wire, tubing, and covered welding rods. Typical chemical process industry (CPI) applications include reactors, heat exchangers and columns.
