What Is The Difference Between ASTM, ASME and ANSI

What Is The Difference Between ASTM, ASME And ANSI

The Sales staff of the pipe fittings will always encounter the three pipe fittings standards of ASTM ANSI ASME in their work. Many people see that this standard is always stupid and unclear. Today, let me tell you what is the difference between these three in pipes?

ASME is an American Society of Mechanical Engineers standard

ASTM is the American Society for Materials and Experimentation

ANSI is an American national standard

304 Round Stainless Steel Rod

316 Stainless Steel Round

But literally we can understand that these three are just different institutions, just like our domestic Ministry of Chemical Industry HG, national standard GB, petrochemical SH, etc. Specifically, ASTM is the American material standard, which is equivalent to the domestic GB713 standard, etc., ANSI is the flange standard, similar to the domestic HG20615. ASME is a design specification, but since ASME is a complete system, ASTM and ANSI are included in the ASME system respectively. There are three different standardization organizations, each standard is its own system, which is the most influential and applied in the American standard system. Among them, the ASME standard and the ANSI standard cover most industrial fields, including materials, processing, technology, experiments, etc. The ASE ME references many ANSI and ASTM standards. For pipes and pipeline accessories, these three are basically unified., commonly known as American standard pipes, pipe fittings, pipe accessories, the most used is the ASME/ANSI standard.

ASME does not do specific work, and almost all experiments and formulation work are completed by ANSI and ASME. ASME only recognizes the specifications for its own use, so it often sees repeated standard numbers, which are actually the same content.
