What is the ASTM grade of Monel 400?

What is the ASTM grade of Monel 400?

Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, the alloy has high hardness, stiffness, and strength. By cold working ASTM B164 UNS N04400 bar, the alloy is subjected to higher levels of mechanical stress, which results in changes in the alloy microstructure. The newer microstructure gives UNS N04400 bright bar a higher strength. In addition to the increased strength, the texture on the surface of Monel 400 square bar also becomes smoother.

At ambient temperature, the alloy is slightly magnetic, and since it is a nickel-copper alloy, 2.4068 Alloy 400 bar exhibits properties such as resistance to seawater and steam even at elevated temperatures. Moreover, Monel 400 hexagonal bar is resilient to saline solutions as well as alkaline solutions. Therefore, the use of Monel 400 in industries such as chemical, petroleum, and offshore engineering is not uncommon.

As the hardness and tensile strength of the alloy increase, the ductility of Monel 400 flat bar decreases proportionally. While ductility is critical in some applications, it can be a problem in others. For example, in engineering or structural applications, the requirement for ductility is low because the material needs to be strong and able to withstand deformation. This is why Monel 400 round bar is recommended for such applications.
