What is the ASTM A312 specification?

ASTM A312 is a standard specification for the manufacturing requirements and mechanical properties of stainless steel seamless and welded pipes. This standard applies to pipes with diameters ranging from 1/8 inch (6.4mm) to 30 inches (760mm) and thicknesses ranging from standard (SCH5S) to table XXS (SCHXS).

1. Pipe material selection: ASTM A312 standard applies to stainless steel materials, including Austenitic stainless steel, Ferritic/Austenitic stainless steel (duplex stainless steel) and martensitic stainless steel. Depending on the specific requirements, the pipe material can be manufactured by different processes such as hot rolling, cold rolling, cold drawing, welding, etc.

2. Pipe manufacturing method: ASTMA312 standard requires that seamless pipes be manufactured by cold working or hot working, while welded pipes need to be manufactured by automatic welding, manual welding or combination welding.

3. Pipe surface treatment: ASTMA312 standard stipulates that the outer and inner walls of seamless and welded pipes should be mechanically polished to meet certain surface finish requirements. In addition, the standard also stipulates the initial degreasing treatment, pickling treatment and cleaning treatment after processing of the pipeline.
