Hastelloy C276 Alloy

What is Hastelloy C276 Alloy
Hastelloy C276 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy known for its exceptional corrosion resistance in a wide range of harsh environments. Due to its high nickel and molybdenum contents, it is particularly effective in reducing environments, while also withstanding oxidizing media due to its chromium content. This makes it a popular choice for demanding applications in chemical processing, pollution control, and other industries.
What is the ASTM grade of Hastelloy C276?
Hastelloy C276 pipe conforms to two specifications: ASTM B622 and ASTM B619. Generally, ASTM B622 pipe is seamless, while ASTM B619 pipe is welded. Of all Hastelloy alloy variants, C276 pipe is the most popular.

Corrosion Resistant Hastelloy C276
Hastelloy C-276 is considered one of the most widely used corrosion-resistant alloys, exhibiting excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of chemical process environments, including ferric and cupric chlorides, thermally contaminated organic and inorganic media, chlorine, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, seawater, brine, hypochlorites, and chlorine dioxide solutions. Furthermore, C-276 alloy inhibits the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, making it suitable for most chemical processes in the welded state. The alloy also offers excellent resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking.
What are the characteristics of Hastelloy C276?
Excellent corrosion resistance in reducing environments
Excellent corrosion resistance against strongly oxidizing salt solutions, such as ferric chloride and cupric chloride
High nickel and molybdenum contents provide good corrosion resistance in reducing environments
Low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding, maintaining corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone of welded joints
Resistant to localized corrosion such as pitting and stress corrosion cracking
One of the few materials resistant to corrosion from wet chlorine, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide
