The difference between 316 stainless steel flange and 316L stainless steel flange
There are many grades in the classification of stainless steel. The commonly used ones are 304, 310, or 316 and 316L. So what does it mean to add an L after the stainless steel flange, which is also 316 stainless steel? In fact, it is very simple.
Both 316 and 316L are stainless steel flanges containing molybdenum, and the molybdenum content in the 316L stainless steel flange is slightly higher than that of 316 stainless steel. After the molybdenum element is added to the stainless steel flange, the overall performance is much better than that of 304 or 310 stainless steel. Generally, 316 stainless steel is suitable for use in environments where the sulfuric acid concentration is less than 15% or higher than 85%, so it has strong resistance to chloride corrosion and is usually used in marine environments.

The maximum carbon content in 316L stainless steel is only 0.03, which is very suitable for parts that cannot be annealed after welding and require strong corrosion resistance.
In other words, 316 stainless steel flange and 316L stainless steel flange are more corrosion-resistant than 304 stainless steel flange or 310 stainless steel flange. And it can withstand the erosion of the ocean and industrial atmosphere.
316 stainless steel flange has good welding performance. It can be applied to all welding methods. During the welding process, 316CB, 316L or 309cb can be used as filler according to the purpose. 316 stainless steel flanges must be properly heat treated after welding to obtain the best corrosion resistance.
