Should I choose Inconel 600 steel plate or Inconel 601 steel plate?

If your application requires superior high-temperature performance, especially excellent oxidation and carburization resistance, choose Inconel 601 sheets; while Inconel 600 sheets are suitable for general high-temperature applications requiring good corrosion resistance and high tensile strength. Because Inconel 601 sheets have added aluminum, their oxidation resistance is improved, making them more suitable for high-temperature environments.

What are the temperature limits for Alloy 601?

1600-2250°F (870-1230°C)

The hot forming temperature range for Alloy 601 is 1600-2250°F (870-1230°C). Hot working operations involving large deformations should be performed at 1900-2250°F (1040-1230°C). This alloy exhibits poor ductility in the temperature range of 1200 to 1600°F (650-870°C) and should not be processed within this temperature range.

Alloy 601

Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 sheets are two commonly used nickel-based alloy sheets widely applied in numerous fields. Although they belong to the same nickel-based alloy family, they differ significantly in composition, properties, and applications. A thorough understanding of these differences is crucial for the correct selection and use of these two materials.

Corrosion Resistance Comparison: UNS N06600 vs UNS N06601 Plate

Corrosion Resistance Aspect UNS N06600 (Alloy 600) Plate/Sheet UNS N06601 (Alloy 601) Plate/Sheet Comparison Summary
General Corrosion Environment Tolerance Good tolerance in many conventional corrosion environments Good tolerance in many conventional corrosion environments Both alloys exhibit good performance in common corrosive settings
Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) Resistance Good resistance to chloride SCC Slightly better resistance to chloride SCC 601 outperforms 600 due to the synergistic effect of Cr and Al in its composition
High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance Good oxidation resistance up to ~1095°C (2000°F) Significantly better oxidation resistance 601's high Cr (21–25%) and Al addition enable formation of a denser, more stable oxide film at high temperatures
Primary Corrosion Advantage Balanced resistance in oxidizing and reducing environments; good chloride SCC resistance Superior high-temperature oxidation and scaling resistance; slightly better chloride SCC resistance 601 excels in high-temperature oxidizing environments; 600 is more versatile in mixed environments
