Monel 400 alloy seamless annealed tube
Monel 400 tubing is a nickel-copper alloy known for its high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and ductility, making it suitable for applications involving seawater, acids, and alkalis. Monel 400 seamless annealed tubing is hollow and features a smooth, dull surface. This is because the annealing process softens the material, increasing its ductility and making it easier to form. This shape is ideal for applications requiring high durability under mechanical stress and aggressive chemical conditions, such as oil and gas extraction, offshore engineering, and chemical processing.
What is the annealing temperature for Monel 400?
1300 to 1800°F
Heating should be performed in a sulfur-free, reducing atmosphere. Annealing temperatures range from 1300 to 1800°F, but 1600 to 1800°F is most typical. Lower annealing temperatures (e.g., 1300 to 1500°F) allow for longer annealing times to minimize grain coarsening.

Key Characteristics of Monel 400 Alloy
Composition: A nickel-copper alloy often referred to as the "Puritan alloy" due to its similar composition to naturally occurring nickel ore.
Corrosion Resistance: Virtually immune to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking and resistant to seawater, acids (such as hydrofluoric and sulfuric acids), and alkalis.
Strength: High strength and good ductility, which can be increased by cold working.
Temperature Range: Suitable for applications from subzero to 1,000°F (538°C).
Hardenability: The alloy can only be hardened by cold working, not heat treating.
Characteristics of Seamless Annealed Tube
Seamless Construction: The tube is formed without any welds, resulting in a uniform, stronger, and more reliable product.
Annealed Condition: The annealing process renders the tube soft and pliable, imparting a matte finish and improving its ductility and formability.
Mechanical Properties: Annealing produces low to moderate tensile strength, which can be increased by using the "as rolled" condition or cold working.
Common Applications
Oil and Gas: Used in oil and gasoline extraction due to its resistance to harsh environments.
Offshore: Ideal for use in marine and coastal environments where resistance to seawater corrosion is critical.
Chemical Processing: Handling corrosive media such as acids, alkalis, and steam in high-temperature applications.
Other Applications: Used in heat exchangers and valves.
