Is alloy 400 and Monel 400 the same?
About Alloy 400/MONEL 400
The solid solution alloy is hardenable by cold working, but can be hot or cold worked, then annealed into complex structures and welded using appropriate welding processes.
Petroleum distillation tower internals, fasteners and fittings, pump and valve trim have used the alloy for over 100 years since its introduction to the market in 1905.
Monel 400 is used in process vessels, heat exchanger piping, and gasoline and drinking water storage tanks in the marine sector. The alloy's non-sparking properties make it suitable for high-risk environments in the explosives industry, rockets, and pulp and paper industries.
High mechanical properties, ductility, and atmospheric corrosion resistance make the alloy a popular choice for rivets in aluminum-skinned aircraft and aluminum ladder structures.
