GH4169 Inconel 718 15*500MM Nickel Alloy Rod Buying Guide

For machining plants specializing in aerospace fasteners and engine shafts, GH4169 (equivalent to Alloy 718) bar stock is a critical material. Purchasing managers face three major challenges when using automated bar feeders and Swiss-type lathes:

Automatic feeder jamming: Inconsistent diameters of standard hot-rolled or peeled bars. Even a deviation of 0.05 mm can cause jamming, resulting in hours of downtime and unbilled losses.

Rapid work hardening and tool damage: Poorly annealed material becomes "diamond-hard" upon tool contact, causing carbide inserts to break and increasing tooling procurement budgets.

Surface roughness: Rough surface finishes (Ra > 1.6 microns) require expensive secondary grinding to meet stringent aerospace audit requirements.

At Gnee Alloy, we are committed to eliminating these bottlenecks. Our precision-ground GH4169 bars are designed for high-speed automated machining, ensuring your production is both profitable and defect-free.

02.

Is Inconel 718 difficult to machine?

This nickel-based superalloy is a common material in the aerospace industry, possessing excellent strength and heat resistance-but these very properties make it extremely difficult to machine. Inconel 718 is prone to rapid work hardening, generating extremely high temperatures at the tool-workpiece interface, thus accelerating tool wear.

FAQ

Q1: Will your h9 tolerance rods work in a Star or Citizen Swiss lathe?
A: Yes. Our rods are specifically centerless ground to meet the exacting requirements of Swiss-type automatic lathes, ensuring zero vibration and zero bar-feeder interference.

Q2: Is GH4169 harder to machine than Inconel 625?
A: Yes, due to its precipitation-hardening phases. However, our optimized solution-annealed state makes it the most Cost-effective Solution for machining high-strength fasteners compared to standard 718.

Q3: Can you provide the bars in the "Fully Aged" state?
A: Yes. For parts where you cannot perform heat treatment after machining, we supply AMS 5663 Aged Bars (36-44 HRC), ground to precision tolerances.

Q4: Do you offer trial samples for thread rolling tests?
A: Absolutely. We encourage material validation. Contact us today to Order GH4169 Precision Rod Samples specifically for your thread-forming or cold-heading evaluation.
