3. Material properties
| Performance Metric | Description |
|---|---|
| High-Temperature Strength | Exceptional tensile/creep resistance up to 980°C |
| Oxidation Resistance | Protective oxidation resistance in air up to 1100°C |
| Creep Resistance | Maintains strength during long-term service at 700–870°C |
| Thermal Stability | Microstructural stability with minimal grain coarsening for prolonged high-temperature service |
| Corrosion Resistance | Resistance to hot corrosion in salt, combustion gases, and other aggressive high-temperature environments |
4. Typical mechanical properties (after aging treatment)
| Property | Value (Ambient Temperature) |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength (MPa) | ≥ 1275 MPa |
| Yield Strength (MPa) | ≥ 980 MPa |
| Elongation (%) | ≥ 15% |
| Hardness | HRC 38 - 44 |
| Service Temperature | Continuous: 650–870°C Short-term exposure: >980°C |
5.Heat treatment process
N07001 improves strength through solution treatment + two-stage aging treatment:
Standard heat treatment process:
Solution treatment:
1080–1120°C × 2 hours, air cooling or rapid cooling
Aging treatment (two-stage):
First stage: 845°C × 4 hours, air cooling
Second stage: 760°C × 16 hours, air cooling
Aging treatment is the key process for strengthening N07001, which improves high-temperature performance by precipitating γ′ phase.
6. Main application areas
| Industry | Key Applications |
|---|---|
| Aerospace | Jet engine turbine discs, blades, combustors, turbine casings |
| Gas Turbines | High-pressure turbine components, turbine rings, burner assemblies |
| Nuclear Industry | High-temperature bolts, fasteners, structural support systems |
| Oil & Gas | High-temperature valves, corrosion-resistant connectors, downhole tool assemblies |
7. N07001 vs. other high temperature alloys
| Material | High-Temp Strength | Machinability Rating | Service Temp Range | Weldability | Key Characteristics |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| N07001 (Waspaloy) |
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Difficult) |
650–980°C | Poor (requires preheat) |
Ideal for heavy-load components in extreme heat |
| Inconel 718 | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐ | 650–720°C | Good | Well-balanced properties, cost-effective |
| Rene 41 | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | 700–980°C | Moderate | Similar to Waspaloy, marginally lower creep strength |
| Nimonic 90 | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | ⭐⭐⭐ | 600–850°C | Fair | Optimal for moderate high-temperature oxidation resistance |
Waspaloy is superior to Inconel 718 in that its high temperature strength (especially 870~980°C) is stronger and more stable, but its machinability is worse and its weldability is not as good as 718.
