Inconel 625 has a higher resistance to oxidation than other alloys. This is one of the many reasons why this alloy is so commonly purchased in the chemical processing and aerospace industries.
Oxidation is primarily dependent on the oxygen level in the atmosphere, with gases such as carbon dioxide and steam promoting the reaction.
Other properties of 625 alloy include resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and resistance to non-oxidizing atmospheres due to the addition of nickel and molybdenum to the material.

A 1000 hour comparative burner unit oxidation resistance test was conducted. The sample consisted of 9mm x 64mm x thickness), placed in a rotating stand with x2 fuels.
The test was conducted for 1000 hours at a 50:1 air to fuel ratio. Please note: The used sample was removed from the air stream every 30 minutes, cooled to ambient temperature by a fan, and placed back into the tunnel.
