density of Inconel 625 alloy

what is special metals inconel 625?

Inconel 625 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy that exhibits excellent oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, and strength at high temperatures. Due to the solid solution strengthening effect of molybdenum and niobium on the nickel-chromium matrix, Alloy 625 achieves high strength properties without the need for age hardening treatment. Inconel® 625 is resistant to chloride ion stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and stress corrosion cracking, making it suitable for seawater environments. Inconel® 625 can be used in a temperature range from cryogenic temperatures up to 1800°F (980°C).

What is the difference between Inconel 625 Grade 1 and Grade 2?

Inconel 625 Grade 2 is supplied in the Solution Annealed condition. The main difference between Grade 2 and Grade 1 is the annealing temperature. In the case of Grade 1, the minimum annealing temperature is 1600F (871degC), whereas for Grade 2 it is now 2000F (1093degC).

What is the density of Inconel 625?
The density of Inconel 625 is consistently reported as 8.44 g/cm³ (grams per cubic centimeter) or 0.305 lb/in³ (pounds per cubic inch) at room temperature, a crucial property for this nickel-chromium-molybdenum superalloy used in demanding applications like aerospace and chemical processing.

What is the hardness of Inconel 625?

Inconel 625 hardness varies with processing, but typically ranges from ~145-220 HB (Brinell) or ~22-30 HRC (Rockwell C) in its annealed state, offering a good balance of strength and ductility, though it can be hardened significantly through aging or cold working to reach higher HRC or Vickers hardness (e.g., up to ~40 HRC or ~370 HV).

What is the temperature range of Inconel 625?

Inconel 625 has an exceptionally wide service temperature range, performing from cryogenic lows (around -238°F or -150°C) up to high temperatures of about 1800°F (982°C), with excellent strength and corrosion resistance maintained across this span, and even up to 2000°F (1093°C) for certain applications like heat shields.

inconel 625 turning speeds and feeds

For Inconel 625 turning, start with lower speeds (60-80 m/min or 200-260 SFM) and lighter feeds (e.g., 0.002-0.008 in/rev or 0.05-0.2 mm/rev) with high-pressure coolant and sharp, negative rake carbide or ceramic tools, aiming for long, stringy chips to manage heat and work hardening.
