Both Inconel 600 and 625 tubing are high-temperature nickel-chromium alloys, but 625 tubing, due to the addition of molybdenum and niobium, offers higher strength (tensile strength/yield strength) and corrosion resistance, making it more suitable for demanding applications, especially in harsh marine/chemical environments, but also more expensive. 600 tubing, on the other hand, is more economical, with a higher nickel content, making it more suitable for relatively milder applications such as boiling water reactors. The main difference lies in the strength and corrosion resistance of 625 tubing, while 600 tubing offers lower cost and a higher nickel content.
What are the standard pipe materials for Inconel 600?
These pipe materials conform to ASTM B167, B829, and B517 standards. Sizes vary depending on the ASTM, ASME, and API standards. Seamless Inconel 600 pipes range in diameter from 4mm to 219mm, while welded and arc-welded pipes range in diameter from 5mm to 1219.2mm, with wall thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm to 20mm.

Inconel 600 pipe is a high-performance pipe made of nickel-chromium-iron alloy (Inconel 600), specifically designed for transporting high-temperature, corrosive media. It maintains excellent strength at temperatures up to approximately 1150°C and exhibits superior resistance to oxidation, chloride stress corrosion cracking, and various acid and alkaline environments. Therefore, it is widely used in critical areas such as nuclear power plant steam generators, petrochemical cracking furnaces, heat treatment equipment, and highly corrosive chemical processes, making it a reliable alternative when stainless steel is insufficient. However, its material and manufacturing costs are significantly higher.
Inconel 625 pipe is a high-performance pipe made of nickel-chromium alloy (Inconel 625) with added molybdenum and niobium. Building upon Inconel 600 pipe, it achieves more comprehensive and superior corrosion resistance and mechanical properties through alloy strengthening. It not only possesses excellent high-temperature oxidation and chloride ion corrosion resistance, but the addition of molybdenum significantly enhances its resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and reducing acids (such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid). Simultaneously, niobium imparts excellent high-temperature strength and creep resistance. This makes it a top-of-the-line solution for transporting media in extreme corrosive and high-temperature, high-pressure environments such as marine engineering, harsh chemicals, aerospace, and high-temperature flue gas treatment. Its overall performance is superior to Inconel 600 pipes, but it is also more expensive.
