Comparison of Inconel 600 alloy and Inconel 625 alloy
Both Inconel 600 and Inconel 625 are nickel-chromium alloys, but Inconel 625 has higher chromium, molybdenum, and iron content, resulting in superior strength and corrosion resistance. Inconel 625 is more suitable for harsh environments, while Inconel 600 is more economical and suitable for general high-temperature applications, especially those with less stringent corrosion requirements.

How high can Inconel 600 withstand?
Inconel 600 (AMS 5540) is a nickel-chromium alloy designed for low-temperature and high-temperature environments up to 2000°F (1093°C).

Inconel 600
INCONEL (NiCrFe) alloy 600 (UNS N06600 / W.Nr. 2.4816) is a standard engineering material suitable for applications requiring corrosion and heat resistance. This alloy also possesses excellent mechanical properties, combining high strength with good machinability.
Inconel 625
INCONEL (NiCrFe) alloy 625 (UNS N06625 / W.Nr. 2.4856) is widely used due to its high strength, excellent machinability (including joining properties), and outstanding corrosion resistance. Its operating temperature range is from low temperatures to 1800°F (982°C).
Inconel Alloy 600 vs Inconel Alloy 625 Chemical Composition
| Element | Inconel 600 | Inconel 625 |
|---|---|---|
| Cr (Chromium) | 14.0%-17.0% | 20.0%-23.0% |
| Ni (Nickel) | ≥72.0% | ≥58.0% |
| Co (Cobalt) | - | ≤1.0% |
| Mo (Molybdenum) | - | 8.0%-10.0% |
Comparison of Corrosion Resistance between Inconel 600 and Inconel 625 Alloys
Nickel-based alloys exhibit excellent corrosion resistance due to the presence of nickel. Alloys such as 600 and 625 fully demonstrate this characteristic.
Compared to alloy 600, alloy 625 contains a higher proportion of chromium. Chromium content is crucial for the oxidation resistance of an alloy. Therefore, alloy 625 exhibits superior oxidation resistance compared to alloy 600.
Alloy 600 contains no molybdenum, while alloy 625 contains over 8% molybdenum, giving it a reduction resistance not found in alloy 600.
Therefore, alloy 625 demonstrates superior overall corrosion resistance.
