430 stainless steel plate metal is a slightly lower grade than the 300 series and is commonly used for applications when the metal needs to hold a magnet, which the 300 series does not. 430 stainless steel sheet bright annealed finish is slightly more susceptible to corrosion since it does not contain nickel or molybdenum like the 300 series. This metal will hold a magnet, but not act as a magnet.
430 is in the "Ferritic" group of stainless steels, containing more chromium, no nickel, and carbon from .6% to 35%. It is magnetic and does not respond to heat-treatment. SS 430 has good corrosion resistance and is highly resistant to atmospheric oxidation and strong oxidizing solutions. It can be readily drawn and formed, and it is weldable by common techniques.
